He was very sick. His right side was paralyzed. He could barely hold a pen. He couldn’t pay his bills. He was so depressed that he started thinking about suicide. He felt that he could not go on.
Only one thing made a difference in his life: his faith in God. Faith in above. In the midst of trouble, problems and despair, he found the courage and peace that only God can give.
At this time in his life, he wrote one of the most inspiring musical compositions in all of history, “Messiah,” inspiring millions of people down through the ages.
In some way, this story from Handel’s life illustrates the great message of Christmas. In the middle of despair and trouble, the Christ Child can make a real difference in our lives.
On this Christmas day, let’s make this very personal. Jesus Christ can make a difference in our lives today. He can turn things around. He can take away our fear. He can bring peace. That is the good news of the manger. Thhis is the good news of Christmas. He offers hope.
To quote from “Messiah” and from holy scripture: “And the angel said unto them, Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”
Merry Christmas!
