With great expression he said, "If I had all the beer in the world, I'd take it and throw it into the river!" The congregation nodded their approval.
Even stronger he shouted, "And if I had all the wine in the world, I'd take it and throw it into the river, too!" The congregation applauded and said, "Amen."
Then finally, he concluded, "And if I had all the whiskey in the world, I'd take it and throw it into the river!"
He sat down after giving his sermon and the music director came to the front quite cautiously. He smiled and said, "Our closing hymn this morning is hymn #365, ‘Shall We Gather at the River.’”
Sometimes we get our wires a little bit crossed.
Even the Apostle Paul struggled with this. He wrote, “I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.” (Romans 7:15, New Living Translation) Crossed wires.
Do you ever feel that way? I sure do. But I am so thankful today for God’s faithfulness that never waivers, even when our wires get crossed, and things don’t come out right. Scripture affirms, “If we are unfaithful, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny who He is.” (II Timothy 2:13)
May the goodness and faithfulness of God lift up our lives today, even if our wires are crossed!
