"A Little Child Shall Lead Them" - - by Rev. Weldon Bares

Norman Vincent Peale told the story of a married couple who entered a small café early one morning with their little girl, who was five or six. The seats at the lunch counter had a few silent occupants: a pair of gloomy-looking teenagers, some tired nurses from the night shift, two or three tough truck drivers and a worried-looking executive with a briefcase. The big man behind the counter with tattooed arms was handing out doughnuts and coffee. Nobody was saying anything.

All at once the little girl spoke up, "Mommy, don't they say the blessing in this place?" There was a moment of silence, then the big man behind the counter said, "Sure we do! You get ready to say it, honey!" He glared up and down the counter and growled, "Bow your heads and shut your eyes!" And everyone did.

Then the sweet voice of the little girl said, "God is great, God is good, and we thank Him for our food. God bless everyone in Jesus' name. Amen." After that, everyone smiled at everyone else. All except the businessman, who quickly paid his bill and left.

But outside, in his car, he put his forehead against the steering wheel and he wept like a child. After he stopped crying, he laughed out loud and said, "It's back! I've got it back!" He referred to the faith he had been taught so long ago. All it took was the simple, pure prayer of a little girl to get him going again.

Scripture says it like this, "And a little child shall lead them." (Isaiah 11:6) I give thanks to God this day for little children who lead us to God!
