A recent survey showed that nearly two-thirds of Americans believe the Bible holds the answers to "all or most of life's basic questions."
Certainly, the Bible is the most influential book of all time. It is the best-selling book in history. According to the Guinness World Records website: “There is little doubt that the Bible is the world’s best-selling and most widely distributed book. A survey by the Bible Society concluded that around 2.5 billion copies were printed between 1815 and 1975, but more recent estimates put the number at more than 5 billion.”
It has had such an influence upon all of history. According to one estimate, Shakespeare alluded to Scripture nearly 1,300 times. It is a book of poetry, historical narrative, symbolism, letters, prayers, prophecy, genealogy, parables. But our faith is that it is God-breathed. It is the most unique book ever written.
A.W. Tozer was a brilliant theologian and Bible scholar. He wrote, “The Bible is not an end in itself, but a means to bring people to an intimate and satisfying knowledge of God, that they may enter into God, that they may delight in God’s Presence."
The Psalmist affirmed, “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119: 105)
I encourage us today to open the Bible and spend a few moments reading it. By doing so, may we discover God’s precious light upon our path.
