I saw a cartoon some time ago about an elderly couple driving down the road on a Sunday afternoon. She is leaning against the door and he is driving. They are impatient to get where they are going. Their progress is slowed dramatically by a cuddling young couple in the car in front of them.
Finding it impossible to pass, the elderly couple finally begin to strike up a conversation. The woman looks across at her husband, then looks at the couple in front of them, and asks her husband, "Why don't we sit together like that anymore?" Quick as a flash he responds, "Well, I haven't moved!"
Some people today no longer feel close to God. Some have lost faith or that faith has turned cold. I want to affirm this truth today from God's Word: God has not moved! God has not gone anywhere. If we do not feel close to God, if our faith has turned cold, we can be certain that it is because something has occurred in our own souls.
Scripture declares that Christ "is the same yesterday and today and forever." (Hebrews 13:8). If our faith has gone, if we feel alone, if we feel apart from God, we need to look within ourselves. God has not moved. We have!
How to rekindle a lost faith? Begin by being honest about this before God. Spend some serious time in prayer. Talk to a pastor or a Christian friend about this matter. Go to church. Spend some time reading the Bible. Look beyond yourself and make an effort to help someone who is less fortunate.
And never ever forget that God is closer to you than you will ever know. God has not moved!
