Having to Wait Three Minutes - - By Rev. Weldon Bares

June 29, 2015

Do you ever get a little bit outdone with yourself? I sure do. It happened to me just the other day.

Here is what happened. Using a website for a local business, I ordered a hamburger and fries “to go.” I scheduled the pick-up time for 11:30 AM. I arrived right at 11:30 and walked up to the counter to pick up my prepaid order.

The young worker told me, “The hamburger is ready, but give me three minutes for the fries.” I hope . . . I hope that I didn’t let me displeasure show. I was in a hurry and it was supposed to be ready at 11:30, but now, heaven forbid, I had to wait for three minutes.

I had not brought in my phone or anything to read, so I had to just stand there and stare into space. Again I say, heaven forbid.

As I drove away, two minutes later, I asked God to forgive me for my impatience. I thought to myself, “Who do you think you are, King Tut?” I thought to myself, “Millions around the world would gladly wait two minutes, two hours, two days for a meal.”

You know, sometimes it’s the little things that get us. Like keeping King Tut waiting for two minutes.

I am so sorry. I will do better.

Do you ever get a little bit outdone with yourself? May God forgive us, and strengthen us each day to do right and to act right. To have a little patience.

My verse from the Bible for today is this: “Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.” (Proverbs 16:32)
