"I didn't come here to stay" - - by Rev. Weldon Bares

A pastor in another state told about a woman in Florida who had a malignant tumor in the facial area. Her doctor told her that the only available treatments would cause some disfigurement and much pain. The treatments did not offer any hope of a cure, but could possibly give her more time.

She carefully listened to the her doctor’s report. She then said, “No thanks, doctor, I am not going to take the treatments.”

The doctor was a little surprised and said, “Look, if you don't take the treatments you are going to die.”

With a sweet smile on her face and a steady faith in her heart she replied, “Doctor, I didn't come here to stay.”

So true. We are simply transients on this earth. We are “pilgrims just passing through.”

Some of us are here for 90 years, some for 50, and some for less than that. Our life in this world is only a little glimpse of what is to come in life beyond the grave. It is only a tiny hint of the main event.

Of course, this great truth from God’s word doesn’t mean that this life is insignificant. Far from it. It simply means that the most crucial thing that we can do on this earth is to make preparations for eternity.

I admire her faith: “Doctor, I didn’t come here to stay.” May God give us such a faith this day!
