Your Life in Just Six Words - - by Rev. Weldon Bares

November 30, 2015

A project that was founded by the online storytelling magazine “Smith Magazine” is called “Six-word Memoirs.” They asked their readers to tell the story of their life in just six words. What a challenge.

Rachel Pine wrote, “Outcast. Picked last. Surprised them all.” Jacob Thomas said, “I colored outside of the lines.” Kelsey Ochs’ six words are, “Followed yellow brick road. Disappointment ensued.”

Charles Warren sadly wrote, “On the playground, alone, 1970, today.” A positive word came from Richard Schnedl: “Many risky mistakes, very few regrets.” Zak Nelson wrote, “Fourteen years old. Story still untold.”

Six words. Somebody wrote, “Stop trying to make everyone happy.” Another said, “The way out is always forward.”

What about you? Could you do it? Could you summarize your life in just six words?

I thought about my own life. Six words. Let’s see - - “Lost my hair. Downhill from there.” Just joking. Maybe something like, “Tried my best. Grace of God.”

Life goes by in a flash, that’s for sure. James wrote these words in the New Testament, “You are a mist that appears for a little while, and then vanishes.” (4:14) In the Old Testament, Job observed, “My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle.” (7:6)

Whether its six words or six chapters, may our lives stand for something positive and meaningful in the place where God has planted us.
