"Walk with Light" - - by Rev. Weldon Bares

An English professor at a large university introduced his class to what he called one of the finest, most graceful lines of poetry in the English language: "Walk with light." He said the words very softly to the class, "Walk with light."

He looked around the room and said, "Now, isn't that a wonderful thing to say to someone?" The class all agreed. They wanted to know the author of those beautiful and profound words, "Walk with light."

"Well, I guess that it's anonymous," said the professor. "It's written on a street sign at the intersection of Main and Ninth Street."

Think about that phrase: "Walk with light." How different our lives would be if every day we would refuse to walk in darkness and begin to walk with light. How different our community would be if we would turn our backs on evil and really start to walk with light from above. What a difference it would make in our families if we would reject hatred and unkindness and walk with light.

Where can we find that kind of "light" to walk with each day? I think we find that light by reading the Bible . . . by going to church . . . by observing and appreciating nature . . . by sticking up for the downtrodden . . . by looking for the best in others . . . by spending time with our Heavenly Father.

I believe it is ultimately found through faith in the One who said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will have the light of life and will never walk in the darkness.” (John 8:12)

This day, let's do our best to "walk with light." Will it make a difference? Just try it and see for yourself!
