"I Shall Pass This Way but Once" - - by Rev. Weldon Bares

March 29, 2016

The famous writer Henry James was saying goodbye one day to his young nephew Billy, his brother William’s son. He said something the boy never forgot. “There are three things that are important in human life,” said Henry. “The first is to be kind. The second is to be kind. The third is to be kind.” Good advice.

The Apostle Paul tells us, “Be kind and tenderhearted to one another.” (Ephesians 4:32)

Henry Drummond was a writer and evangelist who assisted Dwight L. Moody in his evangelistic campaigns. In the year 1874, he wrote a fine little book that was called, "The Greatest Thing in the World." Over the years, it has sold over twelve million copies.

In the book he quoted these powerful words, "I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore, that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again."

The scripture proclaims, “The fruit of the Spirit is . . . KINDNESS.” (Galatians 5:22)

You know, we are simply pilgrims, just passing through. While we can, let’s look around us today . . . and show kindness to somebody.
