"Worcestershire Sauce & Patience" - - by Rev. Weldon Bares

April 4, 2016

In the middle of the nineteenth century an English traveler, Lord Marcus Sandy, was served a fine sauce in a restaurant in Bombay, India. He got the recipe and took it back home to England, to Lea and Perrins, famous maker of condiments, to replicate it.

They did their best but when the Englishman tasted the sauce he discovered that it was not as good as the sauce he had savored in India.

Lea and Perrins then banished the sauce to a barrel in their basement and forgot it. Two years later someone found the sauce and tasted it. The flavor was incredible. “Time has worked a miracle,” they said. That day Worcestershire Sauce was born.

You know, one of the hardest things for most of us to do is to wait. We want it right now.

But some of the best things in life, and some of God’s finest gifts to us, actually take some time to develop. Blessed are those who have the patience to wait.

One of the most interesting and practical books in the Bible is the book of Proverbs. Consider two statements from this wonderful book.

“A patient person has great understanding, but a quick-tempered person displays folly.” (14:29)

“Better a patient person than a warrior.” (16:32)

The Apostle Paul listed patience as evidence of God’s Spirit in our lives. (Galatians 5:22)

Today, let’s remember that some of the best things in life take time to develop. May God give us the gift of patience!
