"Pushy, Pushy, Pushy" - - by Rev. Weldon Bares

I don’t know about you, but I sometimes get a little tired of being pushed and cajoled by someone nearly every time I turn around. I experienced this several times the other day.

When purchasing a book, the clerk pushed me to buy a membership card allowing a discount on future purchases. I was then offered magazine subscriptions. Well, that’s the last thing I need, more magazines.

I went to a cookie place and asked for one large chocolate chip cookie. The young lady behind the counter informed me that if I would just buy two more cookies I would get another one free. Yeah, that’s what I really need, four cookies. When I declined, she smiled and slightly shook her head, as if to say, “What a moron.”

I bought an item at another place and the salesperson did a hard-sell on an extended warranty, which was nearly a third the cost of the original item.

In stark contrast to this stands Jesus Christ. He doesn’t raise his voice. He has no gimmicks or tricks. He doesn’t pressure us. Scripture tells us that he stands at the door and he knocks. (Revelation 3:20) He doesn’t pound on the door. He doesn’t break the door down. He knocks very gently. No pressure. No tricks.

He leaves it up to us to open the door. I am so thankful today for a gentle Savior.

Do you hear him whispering your name? Why not open the door of your life to Christ today?
