"What A Privilege" - - by Rev. Weldon Bares

April 11, 2017

I love being a pastor for so many reasons. One reason is that it has given me the opportunity to meet so many incredible people over the years, people who have blessed my life in beautiful ways.

Miss Jeffie was a long time member of the church that I served in Monroe. I went to visit Miss Jeffie and her little dog, Charlie, at her home a couple of months before she passed away. She was now quite elderly. She had thick glasses and had to use a walker and sometimes a wheelchair. But she was still in her home, staying by herself.

Miss Jeffie had incredible faith. After each visit, I would always pray for her, but then she would pray for me. And I mean, she would call the heavens down. She would get louder and louder and hold my hand tighter and tighter. She would call down the presence of God.

I will never forget what she told me one day. As I was leaving, Miss Jeffie held on to my hand, and pulled me close. Then she said, “Brother Weldon, I want you to know something. I am here in this house by myself, but I’m not alone. Jesus is with me. All the time, Jesus is with me.

Every morning, when I wake up, he is right there. And every night, when I got to bed, he is right there, by my side. He is with me all day long.”

Miss Jeffie smiled and said, “Isn’t Jesus so good? I can’t wait to go to heaven to praise his name for all eternity.”

What a privilege, to meet and know Miss Jeffie, and so many saints like her.
