"A Much Needed Light" - - by Rev. Weldon Bares

To help my spiritual growth, I read the Bible through every year. I can’t begin to relate how much this has helped me in every way. There is just something so special about God’s word.

One of the greatest scientists who ever lived, Sir Isaac Newton, said this about the Bible, “I have a fundamental belief in the Bible as the Word of God written by men who were inspired. I study the Bible daily.”

John Quincy Adams was our sixth president. He wrote, “So great is my veneration for the Bible that the earlier my children begin to read it, the more confident will be my hope that they will prove useful citizens of their country and respectable members of society. I have for many years made it a practice to read through the Bible once every year.”

The famous scientist, George Washington Carver, was born into slavery, but became one of the most influential people in American history. He said, “The secret of my success? It is simple. It is found in the Bible.”

The Psalmist affirmed, “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119: 105)

Here is what Jesus said, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away." (Luke 21:33)

I encourage us today to open the Bible and spend a few moments reading it. By doing so, may we discover eternal wisdom. May God’s precious light shine upon our path each day.
