"What Is Your Perspective?" - - by Rev. Weldon Bares

May 29, 2017

I heard a story about two kids who were playing football at a park in San Francisco. One kid was attacked by a big vicious dog. His buddy quickly found a large stick and hit the dog, killing it, saving his friend's life.

A journalist for the local newspaper was right there. He happened to see the whole thing and wanted to interview the boy. The man started writing on his tablet, "Young Forty Niners fan saves friend from vicious animal." But the boy said, "Sir, I am not a Forty Niners fan."

The man said, "Oh, I'm sorry, I just figured that you were because this is San Francisco." So he started again. He wrote, "Little Oakland Raiders fan rescues friend from terrible attack." But the boy said, "Sir, I'm not a Raider's fan either." The man said, "Oh, I just figured that everyone in the Bay Area was either a fan of the Niners or the Raiders. So who is your football team?" The boy answered, "I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan."

So the journalist tore out the page and wrote, "Little red neck punk kills beloved family pet."

It’s all about our perspective. Perspective means everything.

So what is your perspective today? What is your view on life? Gloom and doom? Optimism and hope? Somehow, I deeply believe that having faith in God makes a huge difference.

Personally, I hold on to the words of Jesus, “In the world you will have trouble, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world!” (John 16:33) I am sticking with that perspective.
