"Everybody is Somebody" - - by Rev. Weldon Bares

I sure enjoy watching baseball. I have been an Astros fan for all of my life, so this year has been especially fun so far. Watching baseball causes me to think of some of the great players of the past.

Several years ago, one of the greatest, Hank Aaron, was checking into a hotel. According to the story, the young man at the front desk told him that the hotel was completely filled and they had no rooms available.

Right away the manager recognized the Hall of Famer. He walked over to the clerk and said, “Hey, don’t you know who that man is? That is the great Hank Aaron of the Atlanta Braves.”

“Oh, I’m so terribly sorry, Mr. Aaron,” the young man said. “Of course I can find a room for you.” Then he said, “Sir, why didn’t you tell me that you were somebody?” Hank Aaron responded, “Son, everybody is somebody!”

I believe that is clearly the example that was set for us by Jesus Christ. It is one of the strong messages that come to us from the New Testament: everybody is somebody.

The Apostle James wrote, “You must never treat people in different ways because of their outward appearance.” (James 2:1)

Today, let’s remember that everybody is somebody.
