A couple of months ago, The New York Times had an interesting story about things that we search for on Google. It was pretty interesting.
For example, most people search for doctors around 8:20 AM. For recipes the time was 4:52 PM and for enlightenment was 3:16 AM. The patterns are pretty clear.
Many people searched for games that are not blocked at school at 8:04 AM. Searching for “weather,” and “prayer” and “news” surge right before 5:30 AM. Searches for “suicide” peak at 12:36 AM and are at the lowest levels around 9:00 in the morning.
According to the study, some big questions are being asked on the Internet between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00 AM. Questions like, What is the meaning of consciousness? Does free will exist? Is there life on other planets? Maybe these late-night questions are stimulated by some drug use, because search rates for “how to roll a joint” peak between 1:00 and 2:00 AM.
There is some evidence that we might be getting less sharp as the day goes on. Between 2:00 and 3:00 in the morning, the search rates for “forgot password” are 60 percent higher than average.
Jesus once asked the question of two disciples, “What are you looking for?” (John 1:38) Pretty profound question. I believe the same question about life comes to us from Christ across the centuries.
So today, what are you really searching for? It is my prayer today that in Christ we will ultimately find the answer. He said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” (John 14:6)
