A lady wrote me to ask a question, “Do you think that we will know each other in Heaven?” My answer to that question is, “Yes.” I have two reasons for believing this. The first reason comes from Scripture.
The Gospels tell the story of the Transfiguration of Jesus. Peter, James and John accompanied Jesus to the top of the mountain. Before their eyes, Jesus was “transfigured” and they heard the voice of God. They witnessed Jesus talking with two great individuals from the Old Testament: Moses and Elijah. This was hundreds of years after the death of Moses and Elijah, but yet they were recognized and known by others.
I think of the story that was told by Jesus in the 16th chapter of Luke. After his death, the man described by Jesus as “the rich man” looks into Heaven and he is able to see and recognize Lazarus, the poor beggar. He also is able to see and recognize Abraham. Other places in Scripture point to this truth.
A second reason that I believe we will know each other in Heaven is because of the goodness of God. Paul wrote, “Eye has not seen nor ear heard nor the heart of man devised what God has prepared for those who love Him.” (I Corinthians 2:9)
I believe that God will do that for us. God knows that a big part of Heaven for us is being with our loved ones once again.
Will we know each other in Heaven? I am counting on it. I can’t wait to see my mother and father. I have a lot to tell them.
I love the old hymn that proclaims, “When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!”
