"Are You Feeling Overlooked?" - - by Rev. Weldon Bares

December 27, 2017

A national magazine recently had a story about Loren Krytzer. He is a 53-year-old former carpenter who lives in California. He was living off disability checks. He saw on television an episode of “Antiques Roadshow” that featured a Navajo blanket that sold for $500,000. He remembered that it was almost identical to the blanket that his grandmother had passed down to him. It had been stored in a backroom for years.

Loren took the blanket to an auction house. Guess how much he got for it? $1.5 million! He later said, “The sale gave me a new lease on life.” He has since then bought two homes and married his longtime girlfriend. (The Week, 12/8/17, page 4)

You never know. Something that is cast aside or pushed back into a corner could possibly be of incredible worth.

The same thing could be said about each of us. According to the Scripture, in the eyes of God, the One who really counts, we are more than valuable. The Apostle Paul affirmed, “You have been bought and paid for by Christ, so you belong to him. Be free now from all these earthly prides and fears.” (I Corinthians 7:23)

According to the writer of I John, “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God, and so we are.” (I John 3:1)

Are you feeling overlooked today? Cast aside? Of little worth? May I prayerfully and humbly encourage you to lift up your eyes to heaven. Look up. You are important to God. You are somebody valuable and loved by the Creator of the universe!
