I recently went on a study tour of Israel. One of the highlights for me was taking a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee.
Our group of 40 crossed the large lake (14 miles wide at one point) in a medium-size wooden boat. We stopped the boat in the middle of the lake. We then read the amazing story found in Mark 4: 35-51 of Jesus and his disciples in the boat on the Sea of Galilee in the middle of a storm.
For a minute, we imagined the fierce storm and the fear of the disciples. We imagined them waking Jesus from his nap. We then visualized him commanding the storm to “be quiet.”
We quietly marveled at the tranquil lake and the blue skies. We couldn’t help but ask the question along with the disciples, “Who is this man, that even the wind and the waves obey him?”
Allow me to ask a question today: Is there a storm raging in your life? Do you feel the wind and the waves pounding against you? I have good news for us today. There is Someone who can bring peace in the middle of our storms. His name is Jesus. As he brought peace in the midst of a storm on the Sea of Galilee so long ago, he can bring peace in our lives today!
A boat ride on the Sea of Galilee reminded me once again of that wonderful truth.
