"A Visit to the Vet's Office" - - by Rev. Weldon Bares

The other day I brought my dog, Max, to the veterinarian’s office for his annual shots and check-up. Max was so excited for the car ride, not yet knowing his destination.

When we got out of the vehicle to go inside the office, the gig was up, but he still had a spring in his step. I actually think he was laughing.

When I handed him off to be taken through an inner door into the back, I told him goodbye, and that I would come back to pick him up in a couple of days. But he didn’t even look back over this shoulder to me. He just looked forward and wagged his tail. He does this every time. I have to admit that it kind of hurts my feelings a little bit. I have to admit something else. I want to be a little bit more like Max in that regard.

When facing something that I am not sure of, when facing something that might not be pleasant, to only look forward. I don’t know about wagging my tail, but I guess I can do that in my heart.

The Apostle Paul said it like this, “This one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and pressing forward to what lies ahead.” (Philippians 3:13)

Thank you, Max, for continuing to teach me some important lessons.
