"Number One Bestseller" - by Rev. Weldon Bares

Many sources list the Bible as the number one bestseller of all time. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, over 5 billion copies of the Bible have been sold and distributed over the years.

The Bible actually has two parts, the Old and New Testaments. It was written in three different languages: Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. It was written on three continents: Europe, Africa and Asia. It was written by forty different people from different backgrounds: farmers, fishermen, religious leaders, shepherds, doctors, tentmakers, businessmen. It was written over a period of sixteen hundred years.

The writers of the book were from different backgrounds and economic levels. But still, they all had the same goal, to communicate the heart of God.

The famous scientist, George Washington Carver, was born into slavery, but became one of the most influential people in American history. He said, “The secret of my success? It is simple. It is found in the Bible.”

The Psalmist affirmed, “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119: 105)

Jesus said, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away." (Luke 21:33)

I encourage us today to open the Bible and spend a few minutes reading it. May God’s light shine upon our path as we do so.
