Hurricane Relief/Recovery Report

First United Methodist Church has been active in hurricane relief efforts since the beginning of September 2020.  In the first several weeks of recovery many wonderful people and churches from all over the country reached out to us and donated money, goods, and food to help our area.  These donations were redirected to those most in need and able to accept donations in the first days after the hurricanes.

We have also been able to help in the following ways:

  • Assisted church members with contractor information.

  • Helped purchase appliances, new windows, building supplies.

  • Built a wall for a home that was open to the street.

  • Bought supplies to sheetrock two houses.

  • Donated 25 Thanksgiving meals to a sister church.

  • Coordinated work sites for mission group from Mississippi.

  • Distributed donated supplies via a drive through.

  • Cleaned debris from several yards.

  • Received and donated lap blankets to Resthaven Nursing Home.

  • Facilitated a Christmas toy distribution with gifts given to us from Lynn Haven UMC from Florida.

  • Helped with housing needs.

  • Donated food to individual families.

As relief needs have changed into recovery needs, FUMC is reaching out in the community to help others.  If you are interested in helping with hurricane recovery efforts, please join FUMC’s Hurricane Recovery Group.  There are many ways to help such as making phone calls, assessing home repairs, purchasing materials, and so much more.  Please contact Steffanie Pace by calling the church or sending her an email at
