Corrie Ten Boom was a watchmaker from the Netherlands. She later became a Christian writer and public speaker. She worked with her father, her sister and other members of her family to help many Jewish people escape from the Nazis during the Holocaust in World War II by hiding them in her home.
The family understood that by doing this, they were in great danger, risking capture and death. One day, young Corrie cried out to her father in panic, “I need you. You can’t die. You just can’t.”
Her father responded, “Corrie, when you and I go to Amsterdam, when do I give you your ticket?” The child answered, “Why, just before we get on the train.”
Her father then said, “Exactly, and our wise Father in heaven knows when we are going to need things too. Don’t run ahead of God, Corrie. When the time comes that some of us will have to die, you will look into your heart and find the strength you need, just in time.”
We live in a world that values speed: instant answers, quick fixes, texts, and email. But God’s ways are not hurried.
The Old Testament reminds us: “For the vision awaits its appointed time. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come, it will not delay.” (Habakkuk 2:3).
Wise words. Today, don’t run ahead of God. God will give us the strength we need, just in time. Let’s wait for it.
